Volodymyr Shapoval, chairman of the Central Election Commission, is urging to prohibit simultaneous ballots in a single-mandate and a multi-mandate (party lists) constituencies.
He has said this speaking in an interview with the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia daily.
"It would be nice if all the political forces agree to withdraw from the current law the provision allowing simultaneous ballots in a single-mandate constituency and on party lists," Shapoval said.
In his opinion, there is every reason to doubt the constitutionality of such a provision.
"In 1998 the Constitutional Court clearly articulated its legal position on the issue denying the possibility of simultaneous nomination in a single-mandate and multi-mandate districts. How could one ignore the ban when drafting a new law on the elections of people's deputies," the CEC chairman emphasized.
The provision will be withdrawn as soon as the Constitution Court rules it unconstitutional, he added.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Volodymyr Shapoval, chairman of the Central Election Commission, supports issue of a medical certificate allowing home voting.
The elections to the Verkhovna Rada are scheduled for last Sunday in October 2012.
