About 5,000 supporters of the Party of the Regions are rallying near the Central Electoral Commission building on Lesia Ukrainka Boulevard in support of president candidate Viktor Yanukovych, the leader of the Party of the Regions.
The demonstrators are carrying national flags and flags with the Party of Regions logos.
Activists are airing speeches on a stage installed in front of the action participants.
The square on which the Central Electoral Commission building is located is presently half-filled with participants in the rally.
The supporters of the Party of the Regions hold the flags of the party as well as banners bearing the names of their population centers, around which groups of people gather.
Videos of joint activities of Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and former prime minister Petro Lazarenko are being played on a platform erected in front of the Central Electoral Commission building.
Large numbers of buses are parked outside the square.
Large numbers of people are also standing in the underground crossing leading to the Pecherska subway station, with a significant number of them struggling to find space.
One of the organizers of the rally told Ukrainian News that the rally was expected to continue until 18:00.
According to him, some Yanukovych supporters are going home while others are arriving to replace them.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, voting in the second round of the Ukrainian presidential elections took place on February 7.
With 88.12% of the votes counted, Yanukovych has 48.59% and Tymoshenko has 45.76%.
The Party of the Regions plans to organize an indefinite event called "Ukraine for Honest Elections" on a square near the Central Electoral Commission from February 8.
According to the Party of the Regions, about 50,000 people are expected to participate in the event.
